Lately I have been feeling inspired to write about the work that I do! When I put my pen to paper, it can be overwhelming to land on a focal point… how do I pick a place to start when discussing a medicine that is rooted in holism?
Holistic is more than a fun buzzword, it is a clue to the mystery that this medicine seeks to illuminate. The work of it is best left to speak for itself through experiencing a treatment first hand, and yet there is so much to speak to regarding both its value and merits as well as its methods.
Our culture does not teach us to listen to our bodies, and when they do talk, western medicine is often poised to silence them again, suppressing so we can return to the status quo and continue being productive.
What’s amazing is how ultimately counter productive this is! Western medical interventions are an amazing, important, and vital part of a holistic way of life, however they are entrenched in a philosophic framework that is often antithetical to holism. When we step back and invite in a broader world view, they are one piece of the puzzle that includes so much more.
The work I do with my patients is rooted in principles of viewing the human being a somatic ecosystem inextricably linked with a broader ecosystem that the body exists within. Symptoms are simply information about the relative state of balance of our system, signals that seek to guide us to a more coherent alignment.
The work I practice brings relief to the body and overall being with tools that teach us how to listen to the body before it starts to shout by cultivating a deeper balance and alignment within ourselves.
Sadly, so often our body has been shouting to deft ears for a long time, the somatic connection has broken down. This can manifest as pain, digestive distress, anxiety, depression, mental illness, chronic illness and compromised immunity, infertility… but the work of restoration is less about the disease terrain and more about nourishing you, the whole being surviving and withstanding the challenges as they arise.
If the body is already communicating at the level of symptoms and disease, this work helps us restore the channels of connection and understand ourselves and our relationships to our environments on deeper levels.
In this paradigm of the body as somatic ecosystem, there is no hierarchy between physical symptoms and emotional expressions, our narrative stories and our bloodwork. All information is medically relevant, and all details provide insight into your unique terrain and its relative state of balance.
My work is to tune into these messages and draw a map with the guidance they provide, using gentle techniques to direct your body into a more dynamic and interwoven balance by skillfully reconnecting the body’s communication channels on a deeper nervous system level.
As I began by stating, the clinical results speak for themselves. I experience incredible fulfillment witnessing my patients discover greater clarity of self in my care, thus experiencing relief from pain, stress and improved relaxation and remission across a wide constellation of symptoms. I get to watch subtle yet powerful transformations occur on my treatment table every day.
A session with me is typically focused through acupuncture or bodywork but these are simply techniques of broader “ecological” holistic wellness consulting, which expands beyond the sum of its parts which can include but are not limited herbal medicine, movement or lifestyle prescriptions, sound and art therapies, and high quality referrals.
